Finding Calm in the Middle of Chaos

Life doesn’t usually wait for us to feel ready or rested. The kids still need us. Work deadlines pile up. The news feels heavy. The dishwasher breaks the same week as the car. Chaos tends to come in layers, and it often feels like there’s no room to breathe, let alone find peace.

But here’s something I’ve learned (the hard way): calm doesn’t always mean escaping everything stressful. Sometimes calm is something we build, even in the middle of the mess.

For me, it often starts really small. I’ve had days where “self-care” was simply putting my phone face down, sitting on the couch, and letting myself do nothing for five minutes. That’s it. Not a fancy spa day or a long meditation session, just a pause. A breath. A reminder that my worth isn’t measured by how productive I am, even when everything around me feels urgent.

Self-care doesn’t have to look like a polished Instagram routine. It can be messy, imperfect, and deeply personal:

  • Making a cup of tea and actually drinking it while it’s still warm.

  • Putting on noise-canceling headphones when the world feels too loud.

  • Journaling for three minutes just to empty out the buzzing in your head.

  • Stepping outside to feel the air on your face and remind yourself you’re here, in your body, in this moment.

The truth is, we can’t always control the chaos. But we can create small anchors of peace. These little acts aren’t about pretending the hard stuff isn’t happening, they’re about giving ourselves a pocket of calm so we can face the hard stuff without burning out.

If you’re in a season where everything feels overwhelming, I want you to hear this: it’s okay if your self-care doesn’t look impressive. It’s okay if peace comes in five-minute doses. You are still caring for yourself. You are still worthy of calm.

And sometimes, the most radical act of self-care is simply reminding yourself: “I deserve to feel grounded, even now.

If you’re just starting on this journey, I’d love to walk alongside you. You don’t have to keep peeling back the layers by yourself. Schedule a free 15 minute consultation to get started.
