A how-to recipe for getting through Christmas when you’re tired, overstimulated, or emotionally done.

Ingredients
One nervous system that’s already had a year
A low tolerance for noise, chaos, and forced cheer
A few small things that actually help you regulate
Permission to not do this “right”
Instructions
Start by lowering the bar. Way lower than you think it should be. This is not the season for overachieving. Decide what actually matters and quietly let the rest go.
Limit your exposure. Too many plans, too many people, and too much stimulation will make everything harder. This recipe works best when mearsuring with your heart so if you're feeling overwhelmed, feel free to leave early, keep it short, or just say no.
Add rest generously. Not “I’ll rest once everything’s done” rest, like actual rest. Naps. Early nights. Doing nothing without turning it into a self-improvement project.
Season with boundaries. Say no when you need to. Keep conversations light if that’s safer. You don’t owe emotional access to anyone just because it’s Christmas.
Stir in something grounding every day. A warm drink. A familiar show. A walk in the cold. Silence in the car. Whatever helps you feel present and connected.
Avoid comparing your holiday to anyone else’s. Especially online. Comparison will ruin the whole thing faster than anything else.
Check in with your body more than your expectations. If your body says “enough,” listen. Pushing through rarely makes this season better.
Serving suggestion
This recipe works best when taken one day at a time.
